Ulladulla is now one of the very few places in the country where a ground-breaking technology better designed to diagnose bowel cancer is available.
The Australian-first high-definition capsule endoscopy became available at Ulladulla Endoscopy this month.
Dr Jessie Hoang said it’s a big win for regional patients.
“With a world class, non-invasive medical service right here, patients no longer need to travel to Wollongong or Sydney,” she said.
The camera feeds high definition pictures of the inside of the digestive tract to a small recorder that is worn by the patient in a specially designed belt. Photo supplied.
The capsule is a tiny wireless high definition camera that sits inside a vitamin sized capsule.
Once swallowed this camera moves naturally through the digestive tract, continually feeding high definition pictures of the inside of the digestive tract to a small recorder that is worn by the patient in a specially designed belt.
Dr Hoang said there’s three main benefits of this global first product;
- It provides high definition, quality images to assist with diagnostic accuracy.
- AI (Artificial Intelligence) can identify 16 pathological lesions inside the digestive tract automatically using the SmartVue Software.
- Time saving- the time to download a patient study on average is five minutes. The doctors reporting time on average is two minutes 45 seconds using the AI software.
